TGI Black Friday

Greetings, blog hoppers, if you have come here from another author doing the Black Friday blog hop! If you're starting here, check the code following this post to hit up the next terrific hop-stop. Comment below for a chance a $10 gift card from ARe!

So the official holiday shopping season begins today, though I've seen quite a few doorbuster sales happening in the last few weeks. My husband speculates that because retail sales were down in October, some stores are trying to get a head start on the winter quarter. This makes perfect sense - as a business you want to put your best foot forward and profit when you can. So you know, however, you will not see me camping out in front of Best Buy, no matter how badly I want the new Kindle Fire or other grown-up toys. I need only play Santa for a few children this year, and I already have a plan in place.

Holiday shopping is too much of a contact sport for me, and given these recent weeks and months of "occupy" protests that target corporations and government, I would like to the take the advise of those who suggest the best way to make a statement is to support independent businesses. These are the entrepreneurs, the mom-and-pop pioneers, people who offer needful things. It is tempting to do my shopping on a one-stop website, but I feel a good way to help the country's economy is to patronize those who help make this a great place to live. So, the little ones on my list will benefit from gifts purchased from smaller businesses that shape the backbone of our country.

Can eBooks figure into this? Definitely! I try to direct readers to All Romance and OmniLit whenever possible - and their inventories grow daily. The OmniBucks make great promo prizes for authors, and if you somebody getting a reader this year you definitely want to stuff a few stockings.

Don't forget, too, you can shop directly from most ePubs. The authors tend to receive more royalties this way. If you prefer print, ask your local bookstore to order titles for you if they aren't readily available.

If you do plan to go out today to shop, stay hydrated and don't forget your helmet!

I use OmniLit and AllRomance too. I like supporting a smaller company and I can easily get the files on my nook with no trouble. Plus as you say, the ebucks thing is great, as are the free reads and the buy 10-get-1 deal. Great idea of the blog hop too! Thanks. jay9moore@gmail.com

I don't do Black Friday. I don't like crowds and folks are just down right rude!

Also, I do buy my ebooks directly from the publishers. It's only fair for the authors to get their fair share of the profit; it is their work, after all!

Thanks,

Remembering the "little guys" is great advice. Some really good deals can be found if you take a minute to look.
E-pubs are often overlooked as well, so reminders are always helpful when competing with Amazon.
Great post!

Online shopping is the way for me. No lines, no stress, no traffic. I did Black Friday once, not knowing the whole concept of it and it was an interesting experience. But nowadays, it is getting more violent as the years go by. So, I might consider myself being a coward but I see it more as being safe than sorry.

When the kids were little I did venture out to the stores on Friday to get the goodies. One year they wanted pound puppies. So I waited in line at the store that had advertised them. When the store opened we all rushed in and went in all directions. Of course I went to the toy section.
No puppies. Came to find out that the store put out 4 puppies in 4 different locations of the store. A lot of people were very upset and yelling at the service desk. They finally brought out the entire shipment, so we all got what we wanted. I don't shop on Friday anymore. lol

My self, I am not big on black friday, I shop all year long and most of it is online anyway. By the time black friday rolls around I have already finished with my shopping for the holidays.

I had a horrible Black Friday shopping day! My daughters and I started out at 11:00 pm last night. Stood inline outside of Best Buy for 2 hrs. in freezing cold. got nothing. Then stood outside of Old Navy for another hour then waited in line hour and a half to check out. Kohl’s would have been 2 hrs. to get checked out. We gave up there. Bath & Body hour and a half check out time. So basically was out all night got home 930 this morning with hardly nothing and so tired and achy and cranky! UGH! Never again for me! I’m done being a Black Friday shopper except online.
